Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition
Performance Contract
2014-2015
The success in our AP English Literature and Composition course depends on all of us meeting our responsibilities. This requires a partnership including student, teacher, and parent. Please read and sign one copy of this performance contract, have a parent/guardian sign, and then return it to Ms. Buchanan-Lind on the first day of class.
As a student enrolled in AP English Literature and Composition, I agree to:
1. Complete all summer work as assigned.
2. Complete all assigned reading and writing by assigned due dates.
3. Understand no late work is accepted.
4. Attend class punctually and regularly.
5. Make up work within two days of return from excused absence.
6. Intellectually engaged approach to material while seeking a better understanding.
7. Fully participate in class discussions as both an active listener and an active speaker.
8. Respect a variety of viewpoints with literature interpretation.
9. Continually strive to improve my skills in reading demanding literature and analyzing literature in both timed and out of class essays.
10. Complete all graded in-class work in blue or black ink, while out of class essays will be typed.
11. Ask for help when I need assistance on understanding assignments or successfully completing them.
12. Attend out of class workshops if my performance falls below acceptable standards.
13. Take the AP English Lit and Comp exam on _________________.
14. Recognize that not meeting course requirements may result in my being dropped from the course.

As a parent/guardian with a student enrolled in AP English Lit and Comp, I agree to:
1. Recognize that my child has elected to take a college level course offered at Dakota Ridge HS requiring more commitment than many other courses.
2. Support my child in complete course work on time.
3. Encourage my child to attend class punctually and regularly.
4. Recognize that much of the out of class work required in the course is reading.
5. Contact the teacher when I need additional information about the performance of my child in the course.

As the AP English Lit and Comp instructor, I agree to:
1. Provide a curriculum that is rich in challenging literature selected from a range of periods and authors.
2. Provide a variety of writing assignments that will prepare students for the type of writing expected at colleges/universities.
3. Evaluate student writing with specific scoring scales and provide opportunities for individual conferencing.
4. Assist students with college and scholarship essays.
5. Conduct class discussions that require higher level thinking skills.
6. Treat students with dignity, respect, and fairness.
7. Be available during AE and after school (by appointment please) for students to seek help and to have a safe place to study.
8. Conference with students and/or parents if students fall below acceptable performance levels.
9. Drop students who are not meeting course requirements.
10. Encourage all students to take the AP English Lit and Comp exam on ___________________________.
